A Veterans Service Officer (VSO) is a certified, accredited professional who assists veterans, surviving spouses, and dependents in applying for benefits earned by the Veteran as a result of his or her military related service. Benefits may include disability compensation, pensions, education assistance, and healthcare programs. VSOs work for nonprofit organizations, veteran service organizations, or government offices, and they are authorized to represent veterans in dealings with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) without charging fees for their services.
