Hello VAG Members, Spouses of Veterans, Interagency Veterans Affinity Group (iVAG) members, Friends of the VAG, HUD employees, and others, How are you? The purpose of this correspondence is to extend a personal invitation to you, and your guests, for the (2017) U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)/Veteran Affinity Group (VAG) Memorial Day Ceremony scheduled for Thursday, May 25, 2017 (11:00am – 12:30 P.M. EST) at the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD): 451 7th Street, SW, Washington, D.C., 20410 (Brooke-Mondale Auditorium). The HUDVAG 2017 Memorial Day Theme is “CELEBRATE ~ HONOR ~ REMEMBER.”
We are honored to have as our Keynote Speaker, Major General Leslie C. “Les” Smith, Deputy, The Inspector General, United States Army Inspector General Agency. We are also honored to have Ms. Candy Martin (National President, Gold Star Mothers), Ms. Sandra Drew, (Regional President, Gold Star Wives), and the families of two of our fallen Comrades; (2nd Lieutenant Emily J.T. Perez, and Army Specialist (E-4) Toccara Renee Green, who have accepted invitations for this honorable occasion.
The Honorable Dr. Ben Carson, Secretary, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and Mr. Nelson R. Bregón, Associate Assistant Deputy Secretary, Office of Field Policy and Management, will provide the ‘Welcome’ and ‘Remarks’ to our honored guests, as well as participate in the presentation of the ‘Certificate of Remembrance’ to the families of our fallen Comrades.
Other Honored guests include the Military District of Washington (MDW) Joint Forces Ceremonial Color Guard and Bugler, the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS): John F. Kennedy High School Naval JROTC Cadets, and the Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS): Suitland High School Naval JROTC Cadets.
A reception for all invited guest is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. (EST), in the Brooke – Mondale Auditorium, and the 2017 HUD Memorial Day Ceremony will begin, promptly, at 11:00am. (EST).
‘We Will Never Forget’ our fallen comrades, and their families, who have made the ultimate sacrifice for this grateful nation, and our freedom.
Facility Access: If you are a Federal Government Employee and have a Valid HSPD-12 (Federal Employee ID Card please present this at the security desk for entrance however, if you or your guest, are not Federal Government employees, and do not have a valid HSPD-12, or Federal ID you must RSVP to: Walter.A.Elmore@hud.gov with your first, and last name, DOB, and last four of SSN. All outside guest must use the South Plaza Employee Entrance when entering the HUD building. Parking will be available at the L’Enfant Plaza Garage, on D Street, S.W. (Security screening is MANDATORY – Please bring proper photo ID).
This Honorable event will be Webcast (Internally) to all HUD Regional and Field Offices
